Heat and smoke haven: Moruya Surf Life Saving Club

2 Charles Moffitt Dr, Moruya Heads

Check to see if it is open during an extreme weather event by calling Marco Cardinale on 0408 846 880 or Bert Hunt on 0412 440 763.

The heat haven is open to members of the surf club and the public.

SHASA successfully applied for funding to install a solar battery, backup generator, ducted air conditioning and LED lights to ensure that the club can continue operations in the event of a power blackout. The club has also replaced all gas in its commercial kitchen so that it is now fully electric.

The upstairs area of the club is usually used for events and functions, so has chairs and tables for 120 people. It also has a commercial kitchen and bar, and separate male and female toilets. With ducted air conditioning, this space can also accommodate people overnight (as it does for competitors in the George Bass Marathon) but there are no camp beds or sleeping equipment provided.

A lift which is wheelchair accessible can bring people from the ground floor to the first floor, for those who have difficulty with stairs. Likewise, there is a beach wheelchair to transport anyone from the beach to the club.
