Heat and Smoke Haven: Broulee Surfers

Heath St, Broulee

The haven is open to all members of the public during an extreme weather event.

Check to see if it is open during an extreme weather event by contacting Allan Veness, 0447 431 111, allan.veness@icloud.com or rveness@ozemail.com.au

Broulee Surfers is a newly upgraded heat and smoke haven that is the only one of its kind in the immediate area. Where Moruya and Batemans Bay each have multiple havens, Broulee Surf Lifesaving Club is the only haven between Moruya and Batemans Bay.

For vulnerable members of the community, Broulee Surfers has the added advantage of having a dedicated first aid room and volunteers who are highly trained in first aid. The first aid room is easily accessed on the ground floor along with the kiosk, a spacious training room, and accessible toilet and shower.

  • Accessible lift

An accessible lift is available as an alternative to the stairs (inside and outside).  Upstairs, the first floor has a large open plan seating area that is air conditioned with HEPA filters. The premises has a licensed bar which is open only on Friday evening 6pm to (latest) 10pm and in the summer season, Sunday afternoons from 4pm to (latest) 7pm. Therefore, when the club is operating as a heat and smoke haven, the bar licence conditions will likely not apply. That is, the bar will be closed and alcohol will not be served.

  • Upstairs toilets

There are separate male and female toilets upstairs, alongside a unisex accessible toilet. There are also kitchen facilities (fridge, stove, microwave, urn, drinking fountain) available.

The club has a backup generator that can provide power in the event of an outage.
