Volunteers Needed for Heatwave Haven at Catalina

December 3, 2025

Over the past few years, several Heatwave Havens have been established in the Eurobodalla.  One of their purposes is to provide a cool sanctuary during periods of extreme heat, particularly for those who may not have access to air conditioning.

When/if the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts a period of 3 or more days of extreme temperature, the Uniting Church Haven in Catalina will open from 10.00am until 7.00pm.

We are seeking volunteers who could do a 3 hour shift during that period.  Duties include greeting visitors as they arrive and providing them with cool drinks and some company while they remain with us.

No special skills or training is required, however a Working with Children check is mandatory.  Checks are free for volunteers and can be arranged by visiting a Service NSW shopfront or via this link:  https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/services/working-with-children

If you are interested, or would like to discuss further, please contact Melinda on 0416 251 312 or email melindahc2@gmail.com
