What happened to the PM’s Federal Integrity Commission?

Helen Haines, Independent Federal Member for Indi stands up for integrity in parliament to make Australia a better place for us all. Watch next.

Helen Haines has explained the following:

We can’t keep waiting for action that would bring integrity back to Australian politics. Helen Haines called out Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his intention to break his election promise to implement a strong Integrity Commission that would root out corruption and hold politicians to the high standards that the public deserves. In Parliament today, Helen moved a motion that would force the Government to consider her Australian Federal Integrity Commission (AFIC) bill. This bill has the support of many retired judges, academic experts and the majority of the Australian public. Helen also tried to table an open letter signed by 2,468 people calling on the Prime Minister to act on integrity now. But once again, the Prime Minister ignored your voices and refused to act.

On September 8 it will be 1,000 days since the Prime Minister pledged to establish a robust federal integrity commission. With only two sitting days before that deadline, it’s clear now that the Prime Minister has no intention of establishing an Integrity Commission ahead of the next election. He has broken his promise.

Right now, Australians are putting their faith in Government in ways we’ve never seen before. From lockdown orders to the vaccine rollout, Australians are living up to their side of the bargain. The Government needs to hold up its side of the bargain and deliver on its election promise.
